Ballymote Centre

For Community & Business

CDRCN has managed the Ballymote Centre for over 18 years under a management agreement with the Ballymote Board of Directors. Ballymote Community Project Ltd (BCPL) is one of the most successful social economy projects in Northern Ireland and is testament to the small group of volunteer Directors involved since 1994 and to the progressive and enthusiastic management of CDRCN.

The contract with County Down Rural Community Network (CDRCN) continues to work extremely well and the relationship has proved to be of mutual benefit to both Community Organisations (Both of which are Charities). The benefits of sharing a Manager (Nicholas McCrickard), Finance Officers (Roisin McCrink and Mary McKeown) and Reception and Admin staff (Patricia Martin and Gemma Cassidy) cannot be overstated. This continues to be a great arrangement and has given both organisations stability and dynamism.

The Ballymote centre remains at virtually full capacity and Administrative staff often report challenges in fulfilling all the needs of users and the wider community as vacant space is at a premium.

Ballymote’s Multi-purpose Hall

The centre continues to grow with the opening of an off-licence in Easter 2019 within Supervalu and BCP Ltd winning planning permission for a new filling station and car park in this period. Our partners Nicholl Oil are due to take control of the site in late 2019 and construction is hoped to be completed in early 2020.

The filling station will enhance the value of the whole centre and overall sustainability and will give us the ability to maintain and improve rental values with the other tenants.

CDRCN continues to look forward with BCPL Trustees to continued growth and are considering how best to utilise the surplus income for the benefit of the local community. New initiatives such as the “RAPID” drug bin for confidential disposal of illegal and unused prescription drugs adds another valuable service to the Ballymote Centre. The centre works with a range of partners to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve the health and well-being of residents.

The centre is at the heart of the local community and serves the wider Downpatrick and Lecale area and is now designated as a “Healthy Living Centre” which greatly adds to its credibility and appeal.
