CDRCN continues to run a Community Development Programme in the Downpatrick Neighbourhood Renewal area through funding from the Department of Social Development (DSD) and in partnership with Down District Council (DDC).
The Project focuses on supporting Communities in Marian Park, Bridge Street, Stream Street Kennedy Square, Saul Street, Meadowlands, Ardmeen Green and the Flying Horse Ward. Ann Grant is the Development Officer and provides groups with specialist support for Committee Meetings, Annual General Meetings, and training workshops.
The Community groups are also supported to participate in Inter- agency panels, the Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership board, The Housing Community Network and recently as a community collective group.
An ongoing weekly activity programme is also delivered in conjunction with the community groups and in Particular the Flying Horse Ward Community Forum through their Health Development Officer Jenny Laverty. The Activities are focused on Physical Activity, such as Friday night Football and Inclusive community Boccia, Arts and Crafts, Active Mind Active Body (seniors group) Men Only, and The Ballymote Women’s Group which has grown out of the Arts and Crafts Programme, Family networking events and youth programmes.
The Community Allotments have also been developed as part of this programme in partnership with the voluntary and statutory agencies on the Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership Board and we look forward to further development of the allotments as a new project.
